Punjab election results: What worked for the Congress?
New Delhi: The Congress on Saturday won the Punjab assembly elections and has returned to power in the state after 10 years. The party has been in trouble in other parts of the country such as Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and other states.
The results of the Punjab polls give the Grand Old Party some confidence. The party was confident of a victory in Punjab from the word go. It decided to fight the elections alone and the gamble paid off. The Congress also banked in on the anti-incumbency factor that haunted the SAD-BJP combine in the state.
Congress' manifesto too, helped the party's fortunes. This included government jobs for the youth, drug menace termination in the state, free education for children especially to the girl child, textbooks for all the children, smartphones for the youth.
