Proud to be an Indian says Bhatkal man acquitted in terror case
I am proud to be an Indian is what this person from Bhatkal who was acquitted of terror charges had to say. Maulana Shabbir Gangawali Nadvi was acquitted by a Mangaluru court on Monday in connection with a terror case. He said that he had been picked up only because he is a resident of Bhatkal and was a moulana.
I underwent torture in jail for 8 years and now I have been acquitted and declared innocent, he said. I have full faith in the judicial system and the legal process. I am proud to be an Indian, he further added.
He further said that he has nothing to do with the Indian Mujahideen and terror related activities. I was arrested on a false charge of possessing counterfeit currency. When the police could not find any evidence against me in connection with the terror case, they implicated me in a fake currency case. I have appealed against this, he also said.
