Procedural part of triple talaq bill over; political part to start soon
New Delhi, Aug 10: The matter of triple talaq is not yet over with the adjournment of monsoon session of Parliament without getting triple talaq bill passed as per the wishes of the government. Actually now the matter starts as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is planning to take it to the people especially with the Muslim women.
Attempts were made to get the bill introduced in the Rajya Sabha on the last day of monsoon session and get it passed the same day. The bill is already through in the Lok Sabha. It was also discussed in Parliament that if need be the session could be extended but no consensus has been reached about and Parliament was adjourned. This is the last year of the government in the office and if the BJP was trying to win over Muslim women and up to some extent Hindus, the Congress was also not ready to lose its Muslim supporters by giving in to the demands of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.
A big section of Muslim women are in support of this bill of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government. With the decision of the cabinet some amendments in the bill have also made relaxing some tough provisions like making bail little easy in case arrest is made after triple talaq; then scope for conciliation and FIR only by victims of kins. The government gave message with this that it it is serious about the bill and it is opposition that is hurdle on the way. But with this the procedural part is over.
Now, the political part is to be played when the BJP and the Congress go out to meet people. The BJP has started it right from the Rajya Sabha when Union Law minister was found shouting that opposition did not allow this to happen. In the name of election campaign, they will reach out to Muslim women that the Congress and the other opposition are against giving rights to Muslim women.
Similarly the Congress too is going to take the same rout. The idea of Congress president on these issues are very clear, he does not want to lose minority however he is trying to win over majority votes.
The BJP is also looking to blame failure of this bill not getting passed on Congress to gain sympathy of people. The BJP leadership was saying that it was a big political opportunity for the Congress that it missed out.
