President Pranab Mukherjee confers Padma awards 2017
The President awarded Padma Shri to celebrity chef Sanjeev Kapoor, singer Kailash Kher, Bollywood chronicler Bhawana Somaaya and others.
President Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday conferred coveted Padma awards to 44 persons which included celebrities and unsung heroes who have worked for the society.
In a formal ceremony in the imposing Durbar Hall of Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi, Mukherjee conferred Padma Vibhushan to mystic guru Sahdguru Jagadish Vasudev and singer K J Yesudas.
Sadhguru Jagadish Vasudev
Sadhguru Jagadish Vasudev has been conferred India's second-highest civilian award, the Padma Vibhushan, for his contribution to spirituality.
Genabhai Darghabhai Patel

Gymnast Dipa Karmakar
Karmakar, who was limping because of a knee injury, attracted the attention of prime minister who was sitting in front row and queried about her well being. "It is a knee injury. I have to take rest for five-six months, then I will train for Commonwealth Games," Karmakar said after the ceremony.
Wrestler Sakshi Malik
Malik is the first woman wrestler from the country to win an Olympic Bronze medal in the women's 58 kg wrestling.
Birkha Bahadur Subba Muringla
Noted Nepali literature Birkha Bahadur Muringla has been conferred the prestigious Padma Shri Award. Muringla is one of the eminent writers in Limboo Literature. He was born at Lingchom village in Sikkim.
