Days after CPM's Central Committee rejected Sitaram Yechury's suggestions to join hands with Congress, former Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee alleged that Prakash Karat lobby is still controlling the Left.
Somnath Chatterjee, said, "Today left parties are getting weaker and weaker, even in West Bengal they are being ignored, Sitaram Yechury's suggestions were rejected by Central Committee which shows that Prakash Karat lobby is still controlling the Left. Not good for future."
A rare vote at the CPM central committee meeting on a proposal to ally with the Congress to take on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its rejection comes as a major setback for general secretary Sitaram Yechury. The committee members overwhelmingly supported a rival motion by former general secretary Prakash Karat and leader from Kerala, S. Ramachandran Pillai.
