Post-Hudhud terror: Vizag's snakes might stray into houses, colonies
Vizag, Oct 18: The coastal city has not yet recovered from the devastation caused by Cyclone Hudhud. Now there is another threat for Vishakhapatnam - Snakes !

The port city is surrounded by green hills, which houses snakes of different species. Thanks to cyclone which uprooted trees and devastated green-hubs in the city, the snakes have lost most of their habitat. A TOI report points towards a possibility of the snakes now straying into human habitations for food and shelter.

Strengthening the speculations, there are now reports from Vizag city zoo of missing pythons ! The pythons might enter people's homes, colonies and other places, locals fear.

The TOI report quotes Snake Savers' Society (SSS) chief Rokkam Kiran Kumar, who caught a python from Parawada area on Thursday, "After the trees fell, all the snakes are now taking shelter in the fallen tree holes. But once the branches and logs are removed, snakes will come out and seek shelter and food in the city and in people's homes. However, people need not panic as most of the snakes found in Vizag district and in and around the city are non-poisonous, with the exception of krait, viper and pythons. They should alert the SSS whenever a snake is spotted instead of killing it."

The hospitals in the city have already started stocking up on anti-snake venom to deal with any snake-bite cases.
