To pay Vajpayee a tribute, PM Modi walks the distance
New Delhi, Aug 17: Atal Bihari Vajpayee was cremated on Friday with full state honours. Thousands of people including several foreign dignitaries, including political leaders paid tributes to the departed leader, Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
President Ram Nath Kovind, vice-president Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP chief Amit Shah, senior BJP leaders LK Advani and MM Joshi, Union ministers, Congress president Rahul Gandhi and former prime minister Manmohan Singh were present at Smriti Sthal on the banks of the Yamuna.
Did you know Vajpayee and his father were classmates
Prime Minister Narendra Modi accompanied Vajpayee from the BJP's headquarters to Smriti Sthal on foot. Accompanying him was party president, Amit Shah too.
Several people were touched with this gesture by the Prime Minister. They called it the best possible tribute to a great leader.
