New Delhi, Feb 27: At the wedding reception of Lalu Prasad Yadav's daughter with Mulayam Singh Yadav's grandnephew in New Delhi, many rare momnets came to fore and the best one was when Prime Minister Narendra Modi shook hands with ally-turned-rival Nitish Kumar.

PM Modi not only shook hands but also had a brief conversation with the new Bihar Chief Minister.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress President Sonia Gandhi were among a host of political leaders attending the wedding reception.

Leaders cutting across party line were at the ceremony, which marked the union of the country's two foremost backward leaders and regional satraps. President Pranab Mukherjee was also there.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, former Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani were among those, besides Mrs Gandhi and PM Modi, who blessed the couple, Raj Laxmi and Tej Pratap Yadav.

Speaker Sumitra Mahajan and Home Minister Rajnath Singh were also present.

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) President Sharad Pawar, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, Janata Dal United (JDU) President Sharad Yadav apart from many Bihar and UP ministers attended the reception.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also attended the 'tilak' ceremony of Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav's grand-nephew.

Extending a friendly gesture, PM Modi landed at host Mulayam's ancestral village of Saifai to become a part of in union of two political families of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, respectively. PM Modi was given a warm reception by his political rivals both Mulayam and Lalu. Cameras captured the 'unseen' bonding between three big names in Indian politics, a sight which will be remembered for long.

PM Modi was personally invited by Mulayam Singh for the ceremony which the former acknowledged, wholeheartedly. The PM too walked the extra mile by flying down to Saifai to attend the pre-wedding ceremony when he could have easily been a part of the wedding ceremony, scheduled on Feb 26, in New Delhi.
