'PM Modi did not meet Nirav Modi in Davos'

The Enforcement Directorate today conducted multiple searches in connection with a Rs 280 crore money laundering case against billionaire jewellery designer Nirav Modi.

With Rahul Gandhi highlighting that Nirav Modi was part of a delegation of Indian businessmen that went to Davos, news agency ANI has reported that Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not meet the billionaire diamond merchant at the World Economic Forum.

Nirav Modi, accused of possibly India's biggest bank fraud, posed for a photo with PM Modi and other key bureaucrats and top Indian CEOs at Davos.

The Enforcement Directorate today conducted multiple searches in connection with a Rs 280 crore money laundering case against billionaire jewellery designer Nirav Modi and others following a complaint by Punjab National Bank. On Wednesday, PNB, the country's second-largest state-owned lender, informed stock exchanges that it had detected a massive $1.77 billion fraud at one of its branches in Mumbai. The Central Bureau of Investigation first filed a case in this regard on Jan. 31.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi took a jab at PM Modi with a tweet titled "Guide to Looting India", in which he alleged that Nirav Modi had wielded his influence with the PM to get away with the Rs 280 crore fraud.

Nirav Modi (46), who had figured in the Forbes' list of richest Indians, was booked by the CBI for cheating after PNB sent a complaint to it alleging that the jewellery firm owner, his brother, wife and Choksi entered into a criminal conspiracy with the officials of the bank and cheated it, causing a "wrongful loss".
