PM in Udaipur: Remembers Vajpayee, dedicates 11 National Highway projects

The completed projects include a six-lane cable-stayed bridge across the Chambal river at Kota. Modi would also perform the 'Bhoomi Poojan' (ground- breaking ceremony) for six NH projects

Udaipur, August 29: PM Modi fondly remembered former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee who initiated plans for construction of the golden quadrilateral connecting India. He also assured help to the people of Rajasthan, who are affected by the floods. He was addressing a public rally at Khelgaon in Udaipur, ahead of inaugurating several infrastructure projects in Rajasthan. Modi was received by Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and other senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Udaipur on Tuesday.

After he finished his public rally, Modi inaugurated 11 National Highway projects, covering a total length of about 873 km. The projects include a 6-lane cable stayed bridge across river Chambal at Kota; 4-laning of Gomati Chauraha-Udaipur section of NH-8, and Rajsamand-Bhilwara section of NH-758.

Speaking on the quality of the roads which will boost the tourism in the state, he said, ''Good roads will help Rajasthan in particular. These new projects will help boost tourism in Rajasthan." He added that tourism is a field which can generate multiple employment opportunities with minimum investment.

Remembering Vajpayee, he said, "Better roads will help our farmers immensely. This is one of the reasons why Atal Ji dreamt of strong roads network across India.

On this occasion, Modi urged Rajasthan government to run a 15 day campaign to add micro and small businessmen to connect with GST so that an all round development takes place.

Further talking about the recent floods in the state, Modi said, ''We are standing shoulder to shoulder with the people of Rajasthan who are battling the floods. We have assured all possible support.''

Concluding his address in Udaipur rally, he said, "We are here to work and deliver time-bound results."

Modi also visited an exhibition on national highways during his one day visit to Udaipur.
