The Supreme Court has refused to list a petition that sought a gag on the media from publishing or airing news relating to the tussle in the judiciary. When the petitioner brought up the matter before the Bench of the Chief Justice of India, Justice Dipak Misra declined the mention made by the counsel.

The petitioner sought a gag on the media from reporting the events that followed after four senior-most judges of Supreme Court addressed a press conference. They had questioned the manner in which matters were being allocated by the CJI before the Benches.

The petitioner sought directions to bar the media from printing, discussing, politicising and debating the press conference of January 12, 2018. He said such orders be issued to prevent politicisation of the issue and also added that there is a damage control exercise that needs to be conducted.

The petitioner represented by his advocate Ashutosh Dubey also sought a directive to judges of the Supreme Court, High Courts and district courts to regulate their work on the administrative side as well.
