PFI activist arrested: What is the Narath Arms Training case

The case was busted on April 23 2013. Based on concrete information, the cops had raided the training camp and taken 21 activists into custody.

An absconding accused in the Narath Armed Training case was arrested by the National Investigation Agency. The NIA said that it had arrested a member of the Popular Front of India, Azharudheen K T alias Azhar aged 24.

The case relates to the Narath Armed Training incident. This case dates back to 2013 when the members of the PFI and SDPI had organised an arms training camp at Narathi in Kannur. The case was busted on April 23 2013. Based on concrete information, the cops had raided the training camp and taken 21 activists into custody.

The case was then transferred to the NIA. NIA officials informed OneIndia that they were on the lookout for Azhar who was the president of the PFI's Narath unit. At the time of the raid, Azhar was guarding the compound. On seeing the cops, he fled from the scene.

During the course of the investigations, it was learnt that the camp at Narath was being held so that the two groups could further their subversive activities. The case went up to the court which handed out jail terms to 21 persons. One person was however acquitted in the case.
