The Patna High Court on Wednesday upheld the life sentence given to former Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Mohammad Shahabuddin in a 2004 murder case. In 2015, Shahabuddin had been held guilty in the 2004 Siwan acid attack case.

A division bench of justice KK Mandal and justice Sanjay Kumar refused to interfere in the matter. "This court finds no merit to interfere with the judgment of conviction and order of sentence passed by the trial court," the bench said.

Earlier on August 22, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had filed a chargesheet against Shahabuddin in the murder case of Siwan-based journalist Rajdeo Ranjan.

In 2004, Shahabuddin's henchman, Raj Kumar Sah, had kidnapped three sons of Chandrashekhar Prasad alias Chanda Babu over a property dispute, the report said.

Among the three sons, Girish and Satish were eventually killed by pouring acid on them while another son Rajiv was killed when he was returning home on a motorcycle. Sah and his two other associates were also held guilty of murder.

Earlier in 2016, Chandrakeshwar Prasad had said "Shahabuddin was eyeing our property, which we resisted. I have paid the price with the life of three sons. I have been killed thrice," as per The Indian Express.

Shahabuddin is currently serving his sentence in Tihar Jail and stands accused in as many as 45 cases, including the murder of a journalist in May 2016.
