Every now and then, questions are being raised on the performance of Parliamentarians and their attendance. Former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and actor Rekha have very poor attendance in the Rajya Sabha. While Tendulkar has attended 23 of the 348 days since his nomination in 2012, Rekha has attended 18. Further, Rekha has not attended more than a single day in any session since her nomination in 2012.

While these biggies are facing criticism for their careless attitude towards their responsibilities, records of other celebrities like Jaya Bachchan, Kirron Kher and Mary Kom is quite appreciable.

As per the data available, 62-year-old Rekha has only 5 per cent attendance. She has neither taken part in any discussion nor asked any question in five years. Her maximum attendance was 10 per cent during the Winter Session in 2013. In the 2013 Budget Session, she did not attend a single session. She is the member of Standing Committee on Food, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution. Rekha attended the least number of days compared to those who were nominated along with her, the expenditure incurred on her is the highest till date: Rs 65 lakh as salary and expenses. She is a Rajya Sabha member.

Tendulkar is not far behind. The 44-year-old nominated member has just 7 per cent attendance. In five years, he has just asked 22 questions but has not taken part in any debate. His maximum attendance is 16 per cent during the Budget Session in 2015. He did not attend a single session in 2012 Budget Session, 2012 Winter Session and 2013 Winter Session.

He is the member of Standing Committee on Information Technology. Expenditure incurred on Tendulkar is Rs 58.8 lakh, according to the data. He is a Rajya Sabha member.

While on Twitter, the 66-year-old actor-turned-politician defended the charge against her by saying, "I will work for my people wherever I am."

Actor-turned politician Kirron Kher, who represents Chandigarh constituency has 85 per cent attendance, maximum among actors, higher than the national average attendance in Lok Sabha (82 percent) and Rajya Sabha (79 percent). She has participated in 30 debates so far. It is a known fact that Kirron Kher is one of the most popular actress-politicians in our country, who does she mince words when it comes to stating her opinions.
