Pakistan to fly 11 evacuated Indians from Yemen to New Delhi

New Delhi, April 8: In a friendly gesture, Pakistan evacuated 11 of Indian citizens and offered to fly them to India, which the latter accepted. The rescued Indians, along with the Pakistani group, reached Karachi by ship today. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif offered to reach them home by a special flight today.

This was also tweeted by Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit, who said,"India has accepted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's offer of a special plane to fly 11 Indian nationals to India with gratitude."

Yemen

According to reports, Pakistani citizens and Indians stranded at the Yemeni port of Mukalla were evacuated by Pakistani warships. The area was stormed by Al Qaeda fighters. India has evacuated mire than 4,000 of its nationals from Yemen in the past one week. It has also helped various foreign national to flee the crisis-ridden country.

Following this, requests from 26 countries have flooded in to India, requesting the evacuation of their nationals too. The crisis in Yemen roots in the air strike declared by Saudi Arabian-led Sunni coalition of 10 nations against Shia Houthi rebels-backed by Iran.

In appreciation to the efforts by the Indian defence, PM Narendra Modi tweeted,"Salute the services of our civilian & defence officials & organisations in helping evacuate our citizens from Yemen. Continue your efforts! and also, "Seamless co-operation between organisations- MEA, Navy, Air Force, Air India, Shipping, Railways & State Govts greatly helped in rescue work."
