Pak artists should not get work opportunities in Bollywood, says Babul Supriyo

Union Minister Babul Supriyo once again raked up the issue of ban on Pakistani artistes in India, saying the issue is not political and Bollywood should stand up for our soldiers. The isssue of banning Pakistani artistes September 18 Uri attacks in 2016.

Babul Supriyo, said, " At the time of release of film 'Ae Dil Hai Mushkil' promises were made saying that Pak artists would not be given work in India,that promise is not being kept. I think time has come when we should take a stand, Pak artists should not get work opportunities in Bollywood."

"I feel Bollywood should stand up for our soldiers. It is not a political stand, it's an Indian stand. It's my individual opinion, not that of the government, said Supriyo.

He has demanded the removal of Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan's voice from a song in Bollywood film Welcome To New York. Supriyo said that not he could not understand the need to hire Pakistani singers when tensions at the border had escalated.

However, Congress leader Tehseen Poonawalla tweeted, "So minister Babul Supriyo has come up with one of the ways to distract us from the Nirav Modi scam. Instead of hearing from the minister of heavy industries on NPAs & the Nirav Modi loot or the PNB fraud case we hear about Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. Terrible"

The call for boycotting Pakistani actors and singers working in the Hindi film industry were raised aftermath of the September 18 Uri attacks, in which militants killed 19 soldiers in an Indian Army camp. Pakistani actors and singers working in the Hindi film industry were threatened by the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena. The party has retracted its opposition to the October 28 release of Karan Johar's Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, which has Fawad Khan in the cast, only after brokering a controversial deal with the Maharashtra government.
