The court ruled that Jhingra is an Indian citizen, while rejecting the arguments advanced by Pakistan. The Shakeel aide has been lodged in a Thailand jail since 2000. The case has been under trial since April 2017 and both India and Pakistan claimed his nationality.

In April 2018, the court had allowed the deposition of 41 Pakistani witnesses who were trying to establish that his Pakistani origin. During the deposition, the witnesses referred to his second wife and children who are in Pakistan.

India on the other hand submitted dossiers which were prepared by the Mumbai crime branch. India was successfully about to establish his identity. As a result of this order, Jhigada will be repatriated to India.

He had fled to Dubai and then to Karachi in 1999 to join Dawood Ibrahim. Later he became close to Shakeel, who then sent him on an assignment to kill Chhota Rajan. He was arrested in 2002 and charged with attempt to murder by the Bangkok police. He was then sentenced to 14 years in jail.

India, however moved Thailand seeking his extradition on the ground that there were a series of cases against him. After a hard-fought legal battle, India finally managed to win the case against Pakistan.
