Ola pilot project: Now, you can rent a cycle in IIT Kanpur campus via its app
Taxi aggregator Ola for the first time has kicked off a pilot project called 'Ola Pedal' in IIT Kanpur for transportation within the campus. The students are allowed to rent cycles which can be booked via its app.
Renting these cycles has made hassle free for the students since its easily available in the Ola app under 'Ola Pedal'. Six hundred Ola cycles have been made available at the various parking stations within the campus and to avail, this service all they have to do is book through the app under 'Ola Pedal'.
Once the users are done with the ride, they can drop off the cycle at their nearest Ola parking station and notify the app. For the trial period, Ola's cycles are free for the first 30 minutes and cost Rs 5 for each following 30 minute period.
The second phase would have much more sophisticated cycles, with a GPS, QR codes, smart locks and better security features to keep the cycles on the campus.
The campus will have around 400-600 of these cycles by the end of this week which will be dispatched for public use with around 250 of them within the week.
However, the results from the project could help Ola to further extend the project to cities. If this pilot project turns out to be a success, the Ola which already has functioning solutions for cars, autos, and shuttle buses - might just end up adding cycles to that list.
