Maharashtra Shocker: 'Obscene images in ads trigger crime against women, rapes can't be stopped'
Speaking to media, Patil on Wednesday, JUne 11 said, "Even if we provide one policeman per house we can't stop crimes against women." He, however, blamed the advertisements which are aired on television. Patil said, "Rise in atrocities against women due to obscene images used in advertisements."
The Maharashtra home minister faced tremendous criticism for his statement as BJP leader Vinod Tawde said, "RR Patil has been incompetent and unsuccessful in maintaining law and order."

Meanwhile, noted Advocate Abha Singh said, "He should be dismissed by the CM. He should not be allowed to continue as home minister." Another BJP leader Shaina NC said, "He has no sensitivity when it comes to women's issues," and added, "It just shows how incompetent he is."
Patil was not first state home minster whose words regarding rapes and crime against women invited wrath of people. Earlier Madhya Pradesh home minister Babulal Gaur said, "This is a social crime which depends on men and women. Sometimes it's right, sometimes it's wrong. Until there's a complaint, nothing can happen."
Chhattisgarh home minister said, "Koi jan bujhkar nahi karta, dhoke se ho jata hai dushkarm" (No one commits rape intentionally. It happens by mistake)."
