Obama's Mary speech: Why Northeast should be delighted?
New Delhi, Jan 28: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has done what he had promised in his poll pitch. He has given the North East a global name, which reflected in the respect that Obama showed for Boxing champion Mary Kom.
Barack Obama in his public speech at the Siri Fort auditorium in New Delhi, mentioned Indian achievers like Mary Kom and Shahrukh Khan. Delighted at the mention, the champion thanked Obama saying that it felt proud to be mentioned by him.
Mary, who was in the city to promote Thai tourism, also met the Indian Prime Minister today as a courtesy call.
This was a great boost for the morale of the North East Indians who are facing hate crimes in New Delhi and other parts of the country. In fact, Modi's poll pitch, just after the Nido Tania case in New Delhi brought fresh air among resenting residents.
He had promised the people that the area would be developed for industries, schools, and colleges and take the region to a new level altogether.
Indeed, Obama mentioning Kom in his speech is just the beginning.
