NRC: Vigil heightened to stop major influx of people into Bengal from Assam
Guwahati, July 31: A high alert has been sounded along the Assam-Bengal border after the final draft of the NRC was released on Monday, by the Assam government. The forces have been asked to intensify vigil along the border to stop any spill over or influx by those whose names do not feature in the list.
The security forces were seen checking every incoming vehicle from Assam into Bengal. A patrol at the villages in the bordering areas was also conducted. The police personnel of both held a meeting and discussed ways of increasing security and vigil to ensure that no spill over happens.
A high-level police delegation would be visiting Alipurduar district today to check on the preparedness. A top police official informed OneIndia that the situation is critical and could snowball into a major crisis, if an influx or spillover takes place. All arrangements are in place as of now, he also informed.
On Monday over 40 lakh persons did not feature in the final draft of the NRC. They have now been given time to file a claim or objection before the final list is released. The final list is expected to be released by the end of this year. The government has made it clear that none would be deported or would face any action as of now. Ample opportunity would be given to all these persons, the government also assured.
