Now, you will able to use make calls, surf net while on-board

According to a top official of DoT, the services are likely to be launched in 3-4 months by service providers. It is learnt that the in-flight connectivity services will be available once the aircraft reaches an altitude of 3,000 meters. The restriction is being imposed in order to maintain compatibility with terrestrial networks.

The process for allocating the spectrum E and V bands will be discussed at length since it is capable of transmitting data at 1000 megabit per second. Apart from this, the commission will also be deciding on how both the spectrum E and V will be allocated.

The Telecom Commission is headed by Aruna Sundararajan and comprises members like Amitabh Kant, NITI Aayog's CEO and economic affairs secretary Subhash Chandra Garg. Earlier this year, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) had allowed airlines to offer internet and calling services provided they met the security norms underlined by them.
