Bharat Bandh on November 28- Opposition unites against demonetisation
After stalling proceedings in both houses of Parliament for the past five days, the Opposition parties have now decided to launch a nation-wide protest on November 28 over the demonetisation issue.
New Delhi, Nov 23: The opposition has called for a Bharat Bandh on November 28th over the issue of demonetisation. Terming it as Aakrosh Diwas, a united opposition has decided to launch a nation wide protest.
All opposition leaders have been told to protest in their respective states over the issue of demonetisation.
Meanwhile, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan today disallowed the adjournment motion notices by opposition parties for a debate on demonetisation, amid huge uproar from opposition benches.
Most opposition members demanded that the debate should take place under adjournment motion, even as Biju Janata Dal and Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) said they have not given adjournment notices.
Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said the opposition is ready for a debate, and accused the government of not wanting to debate on the demonetisation issue.
Union Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu said the nation is backing the demonetisation decision. "Let the discussion take place... people want the house to function and debate this issue. The whole nation is backing the Prime Minister on this decision," he said.
The agitation over the demonetisation issue has now shifted to New Delhi's Jantar Mantar, where several prominent leaders including Sharad Yadav and Mamata Banerjee were seen.
