Not quite the outing: When Mamata Banerjee’s nephew fumbled in Lok Sabha
New Delhi, Aug 1: Mamata Banerjee's nephew, Abhishek Banerjee did not quite have the Lok Sabha outing he would have hoped for. He was caught completely unprepared in the Lok Sabha when it was his turn to ask a written question.
It was listed as a starred question, jointly in his and TRS member K Kavitha's name. An answer to a starred question is given orally on the floor of the house during Question Hour, if time permits.
Speaker Sumitra Mahajan called out Banerjee's name as Kavitha was not present. As he appeared clueless, the Speaker told him, ' your question has come, leave it it you forgot.'
However his party MPs. Sugata Bose and Saugata Roy came to his rescue and were seen showing him the listed question. They were even seen telling him how to ask it. This led to some amount of laughter from the treasury bench.
His question was related to setting up centres of excellence for technological development and its state-wise location in the country.
Before answering the question, Union Minister of state for heavy industries said, " First of all I would really want to thank our learned senior member, Saugata Roy for doing the necessary thing to remind him about the question he has been asked."
