'Not guts but greed': Ahmed Patel hits back at Amit Shah over Assam NRC
New Delhi, Aug 1: A day after Amit Shah said the Congress lacked guts to implement the Assam Accord, Senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel on Wednesday slammed the BJP chief for his Rajiv Gandhi reference.
"Not guts but greed for power, driving them to polarise India over NRC. Rajivji championed Assam & Punjab accords knowing it will adversely affect party's chances in polls. Earlier INC sacrificed its govt in J&K for peace," he wrote on twitter.
"Legacy of Congress is to keep nation before party, this is guts," Patel added.
BJP Chief Amit Shah said in Rajya Sabha that Congress did no have the guts to implement NRC, but BJP has and so we have implemented it.
Shah while reminding the Congress that it was a leader from their party who had signed the accord on NRC in 1985, said "It was an initiative taken by Rajiv Gandhi, but you didn't show courage to implement this, We did. NRC was initiative of the Prime Minister from the Congress party."
Over 40 lakh people were excluded in the final draft list of the NRC released on July 30.
