Top government lawyers on Thursday said that Navjot Singh Sidhu cannot continue with his popular TV show The Kapil Sharma Show as it would be 'unconstitutional'.

Appearing on TV show will be unconstitutional, says Top lawyers to Navjot Singh Sidhu

Sidhu currently holds the portfolios of local government, tourism and cultural affairs. He has maintained that his appearing on The Kapil Sharma Show will not interfere with his cabinet responsibilities. Sidhu opines that doing a TV show does not come under the ambit of 'office of profit'.

Earlier on Wednesday, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had sought legal opinion on whether Sidhu has to quit the Kapil Sharma show where he is a judge, as he is a culture minister and there could be a conflict of interest. Whereas, Sidhu's wife had also said that if legal opinion is against the show, then Sidhu will quit the show.

Hitting out at the Badals, Sidhu had said, "I cannot be a transporter like the former deputy CM of Punjab Sukhbir Badal. I cannot be corrupt to mint money...I do TV shows to earn money to run my home and meet my family's expenditure."

The 53-year-old cricketer-turned-politician was sworn in along with eight cabinet ministers in Punjab last week.
