It is a realm of speculation, the Delhi police while reacting to reports that sedition charges had been dropped against activist Kanhaiya Kumar. While requesting everyone not to speculate, Dependra Pathak, the special commissioner of police said that no chargesheet has been filed as yet and hence it would not be right to say that sedition charges have been dropped. "No finality as of now. A chargesheet will be filed, but not now," Pathak said.

Kanhaiya Kumar

The police had sent videos of an event where anti-national slogans were being raised on the JNU campus to the forensic laboratory. Some of the tapes do not show Kumar in them. However JNU student Umar Khalid and others are seen leading a group that raised anti national slogans. The police say that they are still in the process of verifying the authenticity of the tapes.

On February 9 an event was organised at the JNU to mark the death of Afzal Guru who was sentenced to death after being held guilty in the 2001 Parliament attack case. After complaints of anti-national slogans being raised were made, sedition charges had been slapped on Khalid and Kumar.
