Guwahati, April 19: Now, the story of a man from Majuli in Assam carrying the body of his younger brother on a bicycle has shocked the nation. Almost eight months ago, we saw an Odisha tribal man carrying the body of his wife on shoulders because the hospital -- where his wife was undergoing treatment -- failed to provide him an ambulance to bring back the mortal remains of his wife home in his village.

In the last few months, several reports showcased how lack of medical facilities in rural areas denies basic rights such as an ambulance to a deceased. This time, the Assam man could not avail the services of an ambulance as his village Balijan lacks motorable roads.

Assam dead body

"Majuli (Assam): Man carries body of his 18-year-old brother on a bicycle due to absence of a motorable road in the area," reported ANI.

Majuli is Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal's constituency and thus the episode has caused huge embarrassment to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party government in the state.

Now, the CM has ordered a probe into the matter. A high-level team to investigate the matter has been sent to Majuli, said Sonowal.
