The divide over the shutdown call given by the opposition in protest of demonetisation today seems to be growing wider with Congress asserting that it is merely a " Jan akrosh divas" and not a "bandh".

Azad

Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad told news agency ANI on Monday that a "Bharat Bandh" would cause inconvenience to the people.

Meanwhile, normal life reportedly continued in Kolkata despite a 12-hour Bandh call given by Left parties.

In Bihar and Odisha there are no takers for the bandh. Both governments have welcomed the decision on demonetisation and hence a bandh call on this issue would be meaningless.

Addressing a rally in Kushinagar in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said while he had called for an end to corruption and black money, the opposition was rooting for the 'Bharat bandh'.

"The government is working to end the flow of black money and corruption but they (opposition) are talking about Bharat bandh (shutdown)," Modi said.

The opposition led by the Congress had originally said that November 28 would Akrosh Day.
