Mumbai, Nov 13: Reliance chief Mukesh Ambani's wife Nita Ambani donated Rs 1 crore to boost a movement regarding LGBT in the country. The Ambanis donated Rs 50 lakh to two prominent organizations - The Humsafar Trust (Mumbai) and The Naz Foundation Trust (Delhi).

Both the organisations work for the equal rights and health care for the LGBTQI community in India. The Ambanis donated the money through TV reality show Satyamev Jayate hosted by Bollywood actor Aamir Khan.

HST director -- Vivek Anand was quoted as saying, "Satyamev Jayate has opened up an entire new avenue for our work. Young LGBTQI persons from remote villages too can now reach out to us. We can help address their issues and answer their queries."

"Unless we come out and speak up how can the society understand us? Any effort that increases our visibility is just wonderful," he added.

It has been reported that Reliance Foundation, which is Satyamev Jayate's philanthropy partner, pledged Rs 1 crore donation to support each of the causes featured in the six episodes of Season 3, which was split between the two foundations for the episode on 'Accepting Alternative Sexualities'.

While the TV reality show helped the organisations to reach to people of the community, the same episode brought trouble for the Bollywood actor.

The actor received a court notice as he has been accused of promoting homosexuality. A notice has been issued by a court in Chandigarh seeking Aamir Khan's response by Dec 19. The notice was sent following a petition which claimed that the actor promoted homosexuality in Satyamev Jayate. [Homosexuality: Bollywood actor Aamir Khan in trouble, gets court notice]
