NIA Court convicts 18 in Wagamon SIMI arms training camp case

Special NIA Court on Monday convicted 18 people and acquitted 17 others in the 2007 Vagamon SIMI arms training camp case in Kerala. The NIA court to pronounce the quantum of punishment tomorrow.

NIA Court convicts 18 in Vagamon SIMI arms training camp case

Special Judge Kauser Edappagath found the convicts guilty under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), Explosives Substances Act and various sections of Indian Penal Code.

The case relates to the holding of a camp by the banned organization SIMI at Kolahalamedu in Vagamon from December 10 to 22, 2007. Investigations have revealed that the participants were imparted training, in handling arms, manufacture of petrol bombs, motorbike racing and rope climbing.

The forensic evidence collected from the scene of crime had confirmed that explosives were used in the camp. The case was probed by NIA Deputy Superintendent C Radhakrishna Pillai.
