NIA announces Rs 7 lakh reward for information on NSCN(K) leader SS Khaplang

New Delhi, Sep 10: The National Investigating Agency has announced a reward of Rs 7 lakh for information regarding SS Khaplang the chief of the NSCN(K) believed to be hiding in Myanmar.

Khaplang's outfit, NSCNK(K) was responsible for the Manipur attack in which 18 army personnel were killed. The National Investigating Agency was directed by the Ministry for Home affairs to probe the case. After taking over the probe it has carried out several outfits.

However, the NIA has now sought information on Khaplang the leader of the outfit and also the alleged mastermind of the Manipur attack.

The NIA in a bid to further investigation announced a cash reward of Rs 7 lakh for any information pertaining to Khaplang. The leader of the NSCN(K) is believed to be in Myanmar. The last known intelligence on him suggested that he is living in Myanmar and remote controls the outfit from there.

Khaplang's decision to stage the attack at Manipur came as a surprise for India. The NSCN(K) decided to violate a cease fire on March 27th 2015. The NSCN(K) had a ceasefire deal with India for nearly 10 years.

However, an year back there was a decision taken to violate the cease fire deal. It was officially announced by Khaplang on March 27th 2015.

Khaplang is a Myanmar national who has forged ties with ULFA(I) and has decided to wage an all out war in North East. Khaplang until 2014 was believed to be towing India's line.

However, a meeting with the ULFA(I) heads changed that perception and it was then he decided that an umbrella body of all North Eastern militant groups needed to be formed.

In a series of meetings that were held with the ULFA(I) it was decided that for this group to be formed, the NSCN(K) needed to abort the ceasefire it had with New Delhi. This led to a split in the NSCN(K). Most of the Indian operatives did not want to strike against India.

However, Khaplang put together a group of militants of Myanmar nationals and decided to abort the cease fire violation.
