NEET counselling: MCI warns aspiring medical students to be wary of touts
MCI has warned that any attempt to seek "back door entry" through an agent would be strictly dealt with.
Medical Council of India has issued a stern warning to students aspiring to enroll medical and dental programmes against falling prey to offer by touts guaranteeing seats for money.
A senior MCI official said anyone tempted by such offers and skipping NEET counselling, which is mandatory for medical courses, runs the risk of having his or her admission cancelled, said reports.
Many aspiring students are getting text messages from from touts promising them seats in private medical colleges for anything between Rs 10 lakh to Rs 1.25 crore.
These touts are promising them direct admissions to colleges without counselling which is strictly against NEET rules.
Reports say that touts are offering admission in private medical colleges in UP and Karnataka by paying donation.
A HT report quoted a tout as saying that his commission is set and the rest of the donation would go to the colleges.
MCI has warned that any attempt to seek "back door entry" through an agent would be strictly dealt with while asserting that such admissions would be caught easily.
NEET counselling is mandatory and joining a medical college directly can lead to disqualification of a candidate, according to the rules. Counselling of students will be done by the Medical Counselling Committee.
According to reports, the MCI had last year cancelled the admission of 519 students from 37 medical colleges across the country for taking direct admission to colleges and skipping the counselling process.
