NEET 2017: Ordinance to exempt Tamil Nadu gets Attorney General's consent

The Attorney General's statement comes as a shot in the arm to the Tamil Nadu government that has been seeking an exemption from NEET. The Edappadi Palanisamy government had submitted a draft ordinance to the Ministry of Home affairs on Tuesday asking for the state to be excluded from NEET. The ordinance was submitted after union minister Nirmala Sitaraman assured that the centre will cooperate with Tamil Nadu and accept its proposal for an exemption for one year.

Soon after Sitaraman's assurance, Tamil Nadu government prepared the draft of a proposed ordinance to exempt state students from NEET 2017. "We are hoping it would be cleared soon. The drafts have been sent to concerned ministries of Law and health for their opinion," said Tamil Nadu Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan after the draft was submitted on Tuesday.

With the Attorney General's consent, the ordinance will not be sent to the President for his accent. A decision on the same is expected to be out in a couple of days.
