These conferences are aimed at spreading across the message of peace. With so much of violence and radicalization such conferences are expected to have a calming effect and the government of India hopes that there would be a mindset change.

Moreover, the government proposes to send a message of tolerance through such conferences that are expected to commence from next month onwards.

When PM met with Sufi scholars:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently met with a delegation of 40 Barelvi Sufi Scholars on Aug 27.

The event aimed at sending a strong message in the sub-continent that there are a large number of moderates who do not subscribe to the radical thought that has created outfits such as the ISIS and al-Qaeda.

The meeting was aimed at conveying a strong message that there is a need for an alternate voice to be heard.

Modi during the meet had emphasized on the need for Sufi saints and scholars to counter radical forces through various avenues including on social media, so that the ideology of extremism does not take root in India.

The meeting was significant as there is a need to encourage the moderate voices. Currently there are several radicals who have crowded the internet and push forth a wrong ideology.

This has led to several youth being misguided. Hence it becomes all the more important to support persons with a moderate approach and ensure that their message is conveyed loud and clear.
