National Herald case: No interim relief to Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi, Aug 8: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday refused to stay media reporting on National Herald case involving Congress President Rahul Gandhi.

Rahul Gandhi has, in Delhi High Court, challenged Income tax authority's order to reopen his tax assessment related to the National Herald and Young India transactions.

No interim relief granted to Rahul Gandhi. The matter to be further heard on August 14.

The Congress President was issued Income Tax reassessment notice for FY 2011-12 in March 2018. The department had said Rahul Gandhi didn't disclose directorship of Young India.

Also, the Income Tax Department stated before Court that AICC gave Rs 99 Crores to Associate Journal Ltd and stated that Rahul Gandhi willfully chose not to disclose he was the director at Young India.

The High Court, said, "It'll determine whether he was under an obligation to disclose these details or not." However, Rahul Gandhi's lawyer said there was no income and no tax liability.

On December 19, 2015, it granted bail to Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Vora, Fernandes and Dubey, who have appeared before it pursuant to the summonses. Pitroda was granted bail on February 20, 2016 after he appeared in the court.
