Narayan Sai sexual assault case: Key witness shot at in Panipat
Panipat, May 13: One of the former aide and key witness in the sexual assault case related to the son of self-proclaimed Godman Asaram Bapu, Narayan Sai, was shot at by two unidentified bike-borne persons in Panipat, Haryana on Wednesday, May 13.
Mahendra Chawla received two shots, one at his stomach and other at his neck. He was admitted to a nearby hospital, where his condition is said to be critical. [Narayan Sai threatened to kill me: Asaram Bapu's ex-personal assistant]
Chawla had earlier also claimed that he had received life threatening calls, as he was one of the key person who came out in the open in front of media and revealed shocking revelations against Narayan Sai.
Police has launched investigation into the Chawla attack case. However, no one has been arrested yet.
In September 2013, Chawla, the former PRO of Sai, had said in an interview that "once he was badly beaten up by Sai and he even forced him to sign on five blank papers, so that he could prove his murder as a suicide case, by writing a suicide note on paper signed by him."
After leaving Asaram's ashram in 2005, Chawla told police that "after receiving threats, he decided to leave the ashram."
Two other key witnesses- 35-year-old Akhil Gupta, who was cook and personal aide of Asaram, was shot dead by unknown persons on his way home in Nayi Mandi area in Muzaffarnagar in January this year. [Witness in Asaram rape case shot dead in Muzaffarnagar]

On April 16, Thursday, Gujarat High Court granted bail to Narayan Sai. [Sexual assault case: Asaram Bapu's son Narayan Sai granted bail]
His father, Asaram is currently lodged in Jodhpur jail after being arrested in September for alleged sexual assault on a minor girl at his Jodhpur ashram.
