Nandan Nilekani to scrutinise all of Vishal Sikka's initiatives at Infosys
A day after he was appointed as the Chairman of Infosys, Nandan Nilekani has assured to look into allegations of corporate misgovernance dispassionately. To start off, Nilekani will ask for the complete list of initiatives of Vishal Sikka when he was CEO.
During a conference call on Friday, Nilekani said that he would ask the strategy team to make an inventory of initiatives by Sikka. "I will ask the strategy team to make an inventory of all initiatives by Vishal Sikka. I have kept an open mind with right to all of his initiatives. If there are issues with right to corporate governance, we will look at them. I do not want the company's management to be distracted," Nilekani said.
He revealed that the company is open to considering Infosys alumni for the post of CEO apart from both insiders and outsiders.
How the tide turned in favour of Narayana Murthy in a week
Exactly a week ago, Vishal Sikka quit the company. The board held Narayana Murthy responsible for the move embarrassing him and the company. While Murthy responded to the allegations sharply, within a week, the tide has turned in his favour. Nilekani who was reportedly disturbed by the board's statement against Murthy drove home a point on Friday.
"I am a big admirer and fan of Narayana Murthy. You can think of him as the father of corporate governance in India. Many of the practices in today's world were all pioneered and invented in Infosys," Nandan Nilekani said. It was not without reason since corporate misgovernance was Murthy's primary charge against Sikka and the board members backing him.
"Sikka felt and we agreed that this was the right time to step down," is how Nilekani chose to respond to Sikka's resignation. He also called the Panaya deal 'unfortunate'.
