Nalapad assault case: No bail for Congress MLA's son, Nalapad sent to judicial custody
Mohammed Nalapad Haris is the son of Shantinagar MLA and Congress leader N A Haris
A magistrate court in Bengaluru on Wednesday refused to let Congress leader and MLA N A Haris' son off the hook in an assault case. Mohammed Nalapad Haris, along with his accomplices, was denied bail and sent to judicial custody till March 7.
The 8th ACMM court which entertained a bail petition by Mohammed Haris adjourned the hearing on the plea to Friday. Haris' advocate, Usman, had filed a bail petition deeming that the case against Haris was made out of public pressure. In his bail plea, Haris' advocate had alleged that the police had not taken a case under IPC 307- attempt to murder- initially but added the sections out of pressure.
All accused including Nalapad were subjected to medical tests before being produced in a court. While a bail petition was moved, the court refused to let the accused walk free and sent them to judicial custody.
Meanwhile, Vidvat, who was allegedly thrashed by Nalapad and his friends continues to be treated at the critical care unit of a private hospital in Bengaluru. Medical reports have suggested multiple fractures of facial bones. His family has written to the Home Ministry seeking appointment of a senior advocate, Shyam Sundar, as a special public prosecutor in the case.
Nalapad's bail petition will now be taken up on February 23 i.e., Friday. The victim's family has asked the court to allow them to make a submission before deciding on Nalapad's bail petition.
