Nagrota attack: How 2 brave officers' wives averted a major hostage crisis
The three terrorists who carried out the attack were attempting to force a hostage situation.
Two women who happen to be the wives of army officers showed exemplary courage in foiling the planning of terrorists at Nagrota, Jammu and Kashmir. Seven officers laid down their lives battling terrorists on Tuesday.
The three terrorists who carried out the attack were attempting to force a hostage situation. During the attack on the army unit on Tuesday, the terrorists had tried entering the family quarters. The aim was to take family members of the army personnel hostage.
However, the wives of two army officers displayed immense courage and blocked the entry of terrorists. The two women used household items to block the entry of terrorists.
They were awake as they were attending to their 18-month-old-babies.
"The terrorists entered two buildings which were occupied by officers and their families. This led to a hostage-like situation.
The situation was very quickly contained and thereafter, in a deliberate operation all were successfully rescued, which included 12 soldiers, two women and two babies," Defence spokesman Lt Col Manish Mehta said.

On Tuesday, terrorists stormed an army unit at Nagrota. In a fierce gun battle that took place seven army personnel were martyred.
Among those who were martyred today are:
Major Gosavi Kunal Mannadir, aged 33 years from Village Pandharpur, Distt Solapur, Maharashtra. He is survived by his wife, Smt Uma K Gosavi.
Major Akshay Girish Kumar, aged 31 years from Koramangala, Bengaluru, Karnataka. He is survived by his wife Smt Sangeeta Ravinderan.
Both Next of kin who were informed are at Nagrota station only.
