Mumbai, Oct 23: In a unique initiative to salute Indian soldiers for their selfless dedicated services to the nation and sacrifice in war as well as in peace, an event called 'Remember Our Soldiers' will be held in the city on Friday.

Maharashtra Governor K Sankaranarayanan will be the chief guest at the function hosted by CBD Foundation, a Mumbai-based social organisation. State Water Resources Minister Sunil Tatkare will be the guest of honour at this event to be held at Veer Savarkar Auditorium at Shivaji Park here, says a release.

Vice Admiral M P Awati (Retd), Lt Gen D B Shekatkar (Retd) and Air Marshal Bhushan Gokhale (Retd) will also participate and give their perspective of soldiers' lives – be it on the LoC or helping victims of natural calamities or even to instill confidence during man-made disasters like riots.

Leena Castelino, mother of the Late Wing Commander Darryl Castelino, who died during the Uttarakhand Rescue Operation earlier this year, will be among those who will be felicitated during the event, promoted by Public Relations Council of India (PRCI).

Indians need to emulate such examples and remember the soldiers not just for a day, but forever. Families of serving and former soldiers have been invited to be part of the programme, a release by the foundation said.
