Mumbai: This slum is getting a colourful makeover with 'Chal Rang De' initiative

Whenever we think of slum dwellings all it comes to our mind is dark, grey and black colour pictures of it. But a slum in Asalpha in Mumbai's Ghatkopar is determined to change the way we look at them with the help of 'Chal Rang De' initiative.

A few youngsters have come forward and collaborated with corporate houses and started a movement called ‘Chal Rang De'. Under the 'Chal Rang De' initiative, these youth painted the exterior walls of houses in Asalpha village in Ghatkopar with vibrant colours.

The Chal Rang De team with the help of 750 volunteers has painted 170 walls and created 17 murals. Every piece of art on these walls is either a reflection of the slum dwellers or a message to them.

Chal Rang De' is an initiative started by FruitBowl Digital in collaboration with Mumbai Metro One, Snowcem Paints and Co.Lab.Oratory Asia.

What the founder has to say about it?

According to Dedeepya Reddy, Founder, Chal Rang De initiative said,''We wanted to use our knowledge of design so we can change the way people look at slums. People at the slums were supportive and cooperated with us to bring change.''
