Students of classes 10-12 can come to school to get vaccination: BMC

New Delhi, Jan 3: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation on Monday announced that the schools in Mumbai for classes 1 to 9 will remain shut till 31 January in view of rising Covid-19 cases.

However, the classes for 10 to 12 will continue. "Schools for classes 10 and 12 will continue with Covid-19 protocols. Students of classes 9 to 12 can come to the school to receive vaccination," Suresh Kakani, Additional Commissioner, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

However, some ICSE and CBSE schools in the state reportedly deferred reopening schools in view of rising Covid-19 cases. Considering the safety of the children, they decided to delay the reopening by a week while many schools reopened after the Christmas vacation.

    After remaining shut for almost 20 months, the classes for 1-7 in Mumbai had commenced on December 15. The schools were closed in March 2020 in the Maharashtra capital after the outbreak of the pandemic. Earlier, the decision to reopen schools from December 4 was postponed due to the detection of the Omicron variant of coronavirus.

    Meanwhile, Maharashtra recorded 11,877 fresh COVID-19 cases and 50 Omicron infections on Sunday, the state health department said in a bulletin. The state reported nine deaths.

    Mumbai registered 7,792 new Covid-19 cases.
