Mumbai railway stations get a colourful makeover

It is a 100% volunteer-driven initiative that encourages people to do any act of giving of their choice.

Scores of artists came together recently visits various railway stations in Mumbai to put their creative skills on display, while beautifying the stations.

25,000 volunteers have worked through the night to give Mumbai's local train stations a colourful facelift. Artists from tribal groups in Dahanu and foreign artists also took part in the drive. Volunteers had a chance to choose from 21 stations on the Western Line and 15 on Central.

In 2015, around 500 volunteers had set out to paint Khar and Borivali stations and completely changed them over.

The Beautification programme, called ‘Hamara Station Hamari Shaan' is part of a voluntary initiative in collaboration with the western Railway and Central Railway.

Daan Utsav (formerly known as the Joy of Giving Week) is the festival of giving. It is a 100% volunteer driven initiative that encourages people to do any act of giving of their choice. The railways has said that it will revamp 36 stations in a week.

The beautification through painting will imply giving the foot-over-bridges and entrances of the railway stations a look with a theme and design which resonates with each station and the surrounding geography.

Andheri, Jogeshwari, Goregaon, Malad, Kandivali, Dahisar. Matunga, Khar, Borivali,Churchgate, Marine Lines, Charni Road, Grant Road, Mumbai Central, Mahalaxmi, Lower Parel, Elphinstone Road, Dadar, Bandra, Santacruz, Vile Parle.
