Mumbai: Major fire at Patel Chambers, 2 fire fighters injured

A major fire broke at Patel Chambers in Mumbai's Fort area on Saturday morning. Such was the intensity of the flames that a part of the building collapsed. Two fire officials were also injured during fire fighting operations.

The Mumbai's fire deapartment had initially categorised it as a Level-3 fire but later it was upgraded to a Level-4 fire.

As many as 18 fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the flames.

"Two fire fighters had minor injuries, rest everybody is safe. We deployed 16 fire engines, 11 tankers and 150 fire officers, situation is under control. Cause of fire is matter of investigation as building was completely vacant," a fire officer told the media.

This is the second incident of major fire in the Fort area in last 10 days. A huge fire broke out at the Income Tax office in South Mumbai's Scindia House on last Friday. No casualties were reported in the incident. People who were trapped inside were rescued by fire tenders.

On May 30, fire broke out in a coach of a train parked at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) railway yard on Tuesday. The fire is being doused now by the firefighters. However, no casualties have been reported.
