Satyam fraud case to be heard today

Hyderabad, March 9: The much-awaited judgement on the multi-millionaire accounting fraud is likely to be heard in a special court today. During the last hearing on December 23, 2014, special judge BVLN Chakravarthi said that the case would be heard on March 9, citing voluminous documents of the case.

While the case was being probed by the CBI, around 3,000 documents were marked and 226 witnesses were examined during the trial six years back. Termed as the country's biggest fraud, the scam had come to light on Jan 7, 2009 after, B Ramalinga Raju, the founder and the chairman confessed to manipulating account books worth crores and inflating profits.

Just two days later, Raju was arrested by Andhra Pradesh police's Crime Investigation Department. Apart from him, nine other accused who were arrested included his brother and Satyam's former managing director B Rama Raju, former PwC auditors Subramani Gopalakrishnan and T Srinivas, former chief financial officer Vadlamani Srinivas, Raju's another brother B Suryanarayana Raju, former employees G Ramakrishna, D Venkatpathi Raju and Ch Srisailam and Satyam's former internal chief auditor VS Prabhakar Gupta.
