Bhopal, June 26: In what can be said a s more trouble mounting for the BJP, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan was on Friday, June 26, caught in an audio tape-related controversy.
According to reports, Chouhan's alleged audio clip has leaked in which he is seen asking for favours from a local BJP leader Rajesh Choudhary, following the assembly bypoll.
Garoth Vidhan Sabha bypoll in Mandsaur district are scheduled to be held on Saturday, June 27.
Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh reportedly released the alleged audio clip of Chouhan on his Facebook page, where he allegedly asks the BJP leader to support the party's candidate for Garoth Assembly by-poll.
In lieu of the favour, Chouhan is heard offering Choudhary a "respectful position in the government".
Former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Digvijay Singh has demanded immediate resignation of Chouhan.
Terming it as a breach of conduct, Singh has urged the Election Commission to take appropriate action into the case.
Meanwhile, the BJP has refuted allegations levelled by Singh. State BJP Leader Vishwas Sarang was quoted saying as, "It is a non-issue, just a part of Digvijaya Singh ji's dirty politics. Congress makes efforts to malign image of Shivraj Singh Chouhan before every election."
Chouhan on Friday refused to comment over his alleged audio tape. Garoth assembly seat fell vacant after the death of incumbent BJP legislator Rajesh Yadav.
