Most wanted Maoist leader Ganapathy arrested in Chhattisgarh?: Reports

Raipur, Oct 6: Dreaded Maoist leader Muppala Lakshman Rao alias Ganapathy has been reportedly arrested in Chhattisgarh, media reports said on Monday.

According to a report, chief of CPI (Maoist) 65-year-old Ganapathy was holed up in Ambhujmand jungles, with no chance for home to escape.

By taking action on tip off information, revealed by the intelligence sources, the security forces managed to raid his hideout when he had come for a meeting with naxalites.

Last month, an unprecedented bounty of Rs 2.52 crore cash reward was announced for anyone giving information leading to the arrest of Ganapathy, one of the country's most wanted persons.

State governments announded bounty on Ganapathy

Maharashtra government had announced a cash reward of Rs one crore for information about Ganapathy, Chhattisgarh government also announced Rs one crore award for his head.

Andhra Pradesh government came out with a reward of Rs 25 lakh for Ganapathy's arrest, the National Investigation Agency will give Rs 15 lakh and Jharkhand government will also give Rs 12 lakh for any information leading to the Maoist chief's arrest.

Apart from the CPI (Maoist) chief, about a dozen Politburo and central committee members of the outfit have been eluding the police for long.

Most of these Naxal leaders are believed to be hiding in the dense jungles of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha and Maharashtra.
