"The well marked low pressure area over northwest Madhya Pradesh and adjoining south Uttar Pradesh now lies as a low pressure area over the same region. The associated cyclonic circulation extends upto 5.8 km above mean sea level," the latest IMD update said.

The low pressure system is likely to move west northwestwards and cause widespread rainfall in isolated places in Madhya Pradesh, East Rajasthan and Gujarat, IMD's latest weather update said.

"Likely northward shift in the eastern end of the monsoon trough would cause enhanced rainfall over northeastern states during next 5 days. Heavy rainfall occurred at isolated places over East Rajasthan from 0830 hrs IST to 1730 hrs IST of today," it added.

The IMD's bulletin on Tuesday predicted that the well marked low pressure area over northeast Madhya Pradesh and neighbourhood persists. The associated cyclonic circulation extending upto 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwards with height persists.

With the four-month rainy season almost half over, the rainfall deficiency in the eastern part of India, especially in Bihar and Jharkhand, has crossed the 40 per cent mark, while a quarter of the country has received "deficient" rainfall, the India Meteorological Department data had shown a few days ago.

Bihar has recorded the highest monsoon deficiency of 48 per cent, while east Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand have recorded 46 and 42 per cent respectively. The overall monsoon deficiency in the country has, however, dipped to three per cent. The overall deficiency in east and northeast India is 34 per cent, the highest in the country in comparison to the other meteorological divisions of the country.
