Mumbai, Jun 11: Bringing in the much-needed respite from the hot and humid conditions, the monsoon arrived in Mumbai with heavy showers lashing the city last night and this morning.

However, the MeT department has forecast that the city will start receiving regular rainfall only after 4-5 days.

Monsoon arrives in Mumbai

"The monsoon winds have formally arrived in the city and have reached Dahanu. The initial onset of the monsoon causes a bit of irregular rainfall. But, it will take about 4-5 days for Mumbai to start receiving regular rainfall," Mumbai Regional Meteorological Centre's Director General V K Rajeev told PTI today.

The rains will bring respite from the heat conditions prevailing in the city and maximum temperature will go down starting this evening, he said.

According to MeT records, the southern part of the city received 24.4 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours, while suburban Mumbai received 82.2 mm rainfall.

The maximum temperature at Colaba in South Mumbai was 32.8 degree Celsius, while it was 35 deg C at Santacruz.

The minimum temperatures at the two locations were 26 and 23 deg C, respectively.

Meanwhile, according to the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai, there was no waterlogging recorded due to rainfall and no traffic snarls were witnessed in low-lying areas of Dadar, Parel, Sion, Kurla, Ghatkopar and the Western Express Highway.
